Ad Gefrin Visitor Experience and Distillery
The Borderlands Inclusive Growth Deal supported the creation of this new, all weather visitor destination, catalysing the regeneration of the market town of Wooler and attracting around 50,000 visitors per year from 2025.
Ad Gefrin Visitor Experience and Distillery celebrates our unique heritage, putting north Northumberland on the map.

Carlisle Station Gateway
As part of the Borderlands Inclusive Growth Deal, £20million of funding has been allocated for the Carlisle Station Gateway project.
Strengthening Carlisle’s position in the national rail network, this investment will improve connectivity across the Borderlands region, whilst future-proofing the station for accommodating future HS2 services.

Place Programme
Our Place Programme will support the development and renewal of towns across the Borderlands region and is core to our Improving Places theme.
It brings up to £50m of funding, £20m from the Scottish Government and £30m from the UK Government, in a new approach focused on smaller places across the Borderlands.
Citadels, Carlisle University Campus
This project is transforming the Citadels buildings and adjacent site.
Based on the site of the historic Citadels buildings, the new campus will provide publicly accessible spaces that combine local amenities, cultural and commercial uses, as well as addressing inequalities by creating highly accessible opportunities for higher education and training.
