Citadels Campus
Creating a new city centre hub for education, skills, and economic growth
The Citadels Campus, led by the University of Cumbria, is a £55 million investment from the Borderlands Inclusive Growth Deal to develop a new city centre campus in Carlisle. The project will transform the historic Citadels buildings into a modern, accessible higher education facility that supports learning, skills development, and productivity across the Borderlands.
Delivered in partnership with Cumberland Council and Cumbria LEP, the campus will provide publicly accessible spaces combining local amenities, cultural and commercial uses. It will also help address inequalities by creating inclusive opportunities for higher education and training, boosting the vibrancy of Carlisle city centre and supporting the wider local economy.
