Mountain Bike Innovation Centre

Boosting innovation, skills, and economic growth in the South of Scotland

The Mountain Bike Innovation Centre, led by South of Scotland Enterprise and in partnership with Edinburgh Napier University and Scottish Borders Council, is a major project supporting business, innovation, and skills in the mountain biking and cycling sector. It will provide a hub for Scottish, UK, and international companies to develop new products, services, and training programmes, and to test performance for athletes.

The Centre will also allow businesses to showcase their products in the heart of the UK’s leading mountain bike destination, supporting local tourism and economic growth.

What the programme will deliver

A world-class facility for mountain biking and cycling innovation, the Innovation Centre is projected to generate £86 million in Gross Value Added and over 225 jobs in the South of Scotland over ten years.

Renovation of the listed Caerlee Mill for commercial use will preserve an important heritage building while providing modern facilities for the community. Together with the proposed Tweed Valley Bike Park and Trail Lab near Innerleithen, this project will strengthen the region’s position as a centre for cycling innovation and outdoor adventure.
