South of Scotland Skills Programme

Investing in high-quality business space to support sustainable economic growth

The South of Scotland Skills Programme focuses on investment in skills infrastructure across the region, responding to the need to build a strong, adaptable workforce that can support long-term economic growth. With up to £7 million of capital funding, the programme will support projects that help meet current and future skills needs while complementing wider Borderlands Inclusive Growth Deal activity.

The project will create a modern, welcoming, and inclusive gateway that honours Carlisle’s heritage. Improvements will make travelling easier and safer, strengthen regional and national connections, and provide better spaces for shopping, meeting, and exploring the city centre. This is a major investment not only for the station itself, but for the wider community and the economy of Carlisle and the Borderlands region.
