Borderlands Inclusive Growth Deal

An ambitious approach to cross border working.

The Borderlands Partnership has been established to unlock the potential for sustainable and inclusive economic growth across the South of Scotland and North of England.

The Borderlands - A Place For People

The Borderlands Partnership brings together the five cross-border local authorities of Carlisle City Council, Cumbria County Council, Dumfries and Galloway Council, Northumberland County Council and Scottish Borders Council to promote the economic growth of the area that straddles the Scotland-England border.

We are working together to focus on ways to make the area more attractive to investors, visitors and those who may wish to come and live here.

Our shared ambition is to play our full part in the Scottish and wider UK economy.

Following the submission of a Borderlands Inclusive Growth Deal proposal to the UK and Scottish Governments in September 2018, a Heads of Terms was signed with the UK and Scottish Governments on Monday 1 July 2019. The full Heads of Terms document is available to download here

Update on Programme and our response to Covid-19

We know that Covid-19 is having a significant impact across our region, on our families, communities and businesses and causing both uncertainty and hardship. We would like to reassure you that the Borderlands Inclusive Growth Deal is still working to deliver our aim of long term sustainable and inclusive growth across our region to help restart and rebuild our economy

As we develop our Deal we will need to make some changes to the timing and details of some of our programmes, to reflect the current emergency situation but know that our work and our vision will be more vital than ever as we move forward, in supporting the recovery and future development of our economy.

We are reviewing our work so that we consider the impact of Covid-19 and adjust projects accordingly. This may mean that some work is brought forward, as it can quickly and directly support shorter-term recovery. Other work may move to delivery at a later date than originally planned, for example if resource is not immediately available to progress.

We will provide a fuller update shortly, with our next newsletter and regular updates posted to this site. Sign up for our newsletter here.

If you have any specific questions about the Covid-19 situation or about accessing support and advice from your local authority, please contact them directly as usual or visit their websites by clicking on their logo below.
